RON LAWSON
After my service in the Navy, during the Vietnam War, I went to work at CBS Television City in the Maintenance Department. Several years later I transferred to KMOX-TV, the CBS O&O in St. Louis. I worked as a Camera & Video Tape Operator. A bit later I moved up to TD for the News shows and other events. Next I became a member of an ENG crew.
During a live shot I noticed, when I saw the weather for other parts of the country, the temperature in Los Angeles was in the 70’s and we were standing in a place where the temperature was in the 20’s. <ed. Must have been during the winter?> I ask myself why wasn’t I in LA. Shortly after I posed that question to myself I moved on to a position at the NBC station in Los Angeles. I was a member of an EJ Crew at KNBC. There was a Labor dispute and after the dispute ended I became a Camera Operator in the Studios, something about seniority.
In the late 80’s I accepted a buy-out offer and moved to the mountains, Oakhurst, above Fresno, near Yosemite. I commuted to Fresno to work as an Operations Engineer at the NBC affiliate station. Later, I had an opportunity to work for Microsoft WebTV in the Bay Area, After "down-sizing and reorganization of staff they let 160 people, including me, be eliminated.
At present I am doing Contract work for Microsoft at the same place I had worked before the reorganization.
