Howard Gingold

My career with KNXT started in 1964 and ended in 1978 with closure of the Sacramento bureau.  In that time I was a news writer, Big News producer, field reporter and Sacramento correspondent (following in the distinguished footsteps of Bob Simmons and Warren Olney).

From 1978 to1981, I was the press secretary for Assembly Speaker Leo McCarthy, a job damn near as exciting as news reporter. That came to an end when Leo lost the speakership to Willie Brown, thrusting me into a late-in-life career as a free lance producer/writer of non-fiction television. That's where I am now, and even though the last few years have been disappointingly slow I am still in there pitching.

Does the term "semi-retired" resonate?

Hi Bob,
Here's another photo.  Not sure when it was taken, probably in 1975, on a charter trip for a story involving Gov. Reagan.  Left to right are Dick Shoemaker, ex-KNXT but by that time an ABC correspondent; me (Howard Gingold), KNXT Sacramento bureau chief, and Bob Flick, also ex-KNXT, at that time an NBC News field producer (prior to Jonestown).  Don't know who the fingers belong to.  (editor's note-the fingers probably belong to the film crew.)
